August is Senior Appreciation Month (S.A.M.)!
Seniornicity is recognizing our seniors during the month of August in celebration of Senior Appreciation Day on August 21st, as recognized in 1988 by President Ronald Reagan.
Join us and our partners for each themed week. Together we can show every senior they matter and how much we care.
Share with your friends and family, and Welcome to Senior Appreciation Month!
Week 1 (August 4th - August 10th) - Hug a Senior Week
In honor of the first week of Senior Appreciation Month, this week we've designated as Hug a Senior Week! According to the Cleveland Clinic, as well as a variety of other publications, hugs have been proven to increase happiness, decrease the chance of illness, and increase overall self-esteem.
A short time ago, we couldn't visit, touch, or hug our seniors. Let's break out of that mold and bring back the norm.
Hug a Senior this week!
Week 2 (August 11th - August 17th) - Help a Senior
Our senior years can be an incredible time in our lives, and as we age, we sometimes need a little more TLC and attention to continue to live the "best years of our lives."
To celebrate the 2nd week of Senior Appreciation Month (aka S.A.M.), help a senior this week! You could help a senior run errands, pick up items for them, or take daily walks. So, help the seniors in your life this week, and happy Senior Appreciation Month!
Week 3 (August 18th - August 24th) - Play a Game with a Senior
Playing games as we age can be more beneficial than you know. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the 'benefits of play' include stress relief, improved brain functionality, hand-eye coordination, and enhanced relationships—all of which are incredibly important as we age.
To celebrate the third week of Senior Appreciation Month (aka S.A.M.), we want to invite you to play a game with a senior! It could be chess, pickleball, a board game, or balloon bouncing; It doesn't matter as long as you play!
Week 4 (August 25th - August 31st) - “Let’s Socialize”
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), Socialization plays a role in our overall health and mental well-being. This is the reason the final week of Senior Appreciation Month (aka S.A.M.) is dedicated to socializing with seniors.
Ask a senior about their lives, family, and hobbies, take them out for coffee or dinner, bring the grandkids over, or just chat over a nice home-cooked meal. Happy Senior Appreciation Month!
